Our Walk Into Books, Bourbon County! walking contests have made a positive impact on the Fort Scott community. To date, 313 participants ranging in age from toddlers to elderly adults have logged 108,948,346 steps in our 4 walking competitions!
Program Information:
Walk Into Books, Bourbon County! challenges participants to log their daily steps in the Reader Zone app or website, with the goal of reaching a destination virtually. Each contest features a theme and books that tie in with the theme. Our first four themes were: The Yellow Brick Road Challenge, The Little House Challenge, The Gordon Parks Challenge, and the Super Step Contest. Our next contest is Step Into Adventure, based on Zebulon Pike’s exploration of southeast Kansas. We will tie in other adventure books set in Kansas as well. Participants receive a free t-shirt and pedometer just for signing up. Each member of the winning team also earns a new book (which they choose from a list of books that tie in with the theme) and an additional prize.
Sponsorship Information:
We seek sponsors who share our vision for improving the health and literacy of our community and are willing to sponsor us by donating money for t-shirts, pedometers, or prize books, or will donate prizes, including coupons, gift certificates, or objects related to health, literacy, or the contest theme.
T-Shirt price tiers are detailed in the image below.
