During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are handling the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program a bit differently than usual. Instead of us providing paper reading logs, we are asking that you track your child’s reading however you like – on the app, on regular paper, on a white board, or whatever works for you. Email Miss Val at firstname.lastname@example.org with each 100-book milestone you reach, along with a photo of your child holding a printed or handwritten sign showing the milestone for posting online. They may also hold a book if you’d like. If you would rather, you may message the library through Facebook with the above information. For each milestone your child reaches, we will post their photo in our program’s Facebook album, print a photo for you to keep, give them the sticker for that milestone, and a free book of your choosing from this reward book list.
Fort Scott Public Library offers an early literacy program: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! Children from birth through kindergarten are invited to participate. Upon registration via phone or in person, participants receive a reading record. Each complete reading of a story that the child hears counts toward their 1,000 books, and participants receive a sticker, free picture book, and new reading log at each 100-book milestone. Call, message, or visit us for more information on this exciting program. You may also visit this link: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten for more information or to install a free app, helpful for tracking books read.
