Overdue fees are 5 cents a day, per item, accruing on days the library is open. The maximum fine for any item will be no higher than one half the replacement cost of the item or $5.00, whichever is lower.
The total maximum fines for any patron account will not exceed $25.00 at any time. This maximum does not include processing fees or cost for lost or damaged items.
All items have a 7 day grace period. Fees are calculated from the due date for items not returned during the grace period.
Overdue notices and invoices are sent as a courtesy. Patrons are responsible for all items on their accounts, regardless of receipt of notices.
Any material not returned within 30 days of the due date is considered lost, and the replacement cost will be assessed to the patron’s account.
A $5.00 processing fee will be charged to the account at this time.
Long overdue items or charges in excess of $10.00 will result in the loss of borrowing privileges. Additional steps may be taken to recover long overdue materials including through the legal system.
Patrons may replace lost or damaged items with a new copy of the exact same item. Edition number, bonus features, etc. must exactly match the item being replaced. A replacement of the same title, or material on the same subject of equal literary value, may be accepted in lieu of the monetary charge, at the discretion of the Director.
Long overdue items returned within one year of the original due date, in acceptable condition, and if replacements have not been purchased, will result in the following adjustments. The costs of the items will be removed from the account, and overdue charges for the items will be calculated at one half the cost of each item, not to exceed $25.00 in total. The $5.00 processing fee will still be charged to the patron, with total charges not exceeding $30.00.
If long overdue items are returned after Fort Scott Public Library has purchased replacement copies or has reimbursed owning libraries for the items, the patron will be responsible for the originally stated cost of the item.
Borrowers assume responsibility for all items checked out on their cards. If items are lost or damaged beyond normal wear, the borrower will be charged. For damage which does not cause the library to discard the item, a minimum of $1.00 will be charged. Fees paid are for damage to Library property and do not constitute a purchase of the item.
Replacement cost will be charged for items either lost or damaged to the extent that the Library no longer chooses to keep them in the collection. If the item is no longer in print, the charge will be the greater of either the original cost of the item or:
