Youth Summer Reading has ended! Join us next summer for Imagine Your Story! Here’s a glimpse of our activities during the 2019 program:
This summer, we will explore fairy tales, fantasy, and mythology with the theme “Imagine Your Story.” We will kick off our program on June 3, from 10 am to 12 pm. The party will be “Once Upon a Time in Fort Scott,” with prizes, games, snacks, toys, puzzles, and loads to enjoy. The following week, on Tues. & Wed. at 10 a.m., we will begin our regular weekly programs at the library, which will include stories, crafts, activities, snacks, reading prizes, and more! On June 15 at 1:30 pm, we will gather back at the Ellis Fine Arts Center for a performance from Storyteller Will Stuck, entitled “Figment Follies.” We will meet again at Ellis for another performance on June 30 at 10 a.m. from musician Alan Cunningham. Magician Jeff Quinn will visit us at the Ellis Center on July 20 at 10 am, and Storyteller Jo Ho will come to Ellis on July 29 at 10 am. We will also offered at least one party, to be announced later, and a Saturday LibraryCon sometime in July, from 10 – 2. To check out our latest event news, see our Facebook Events Page. Registration for summer reading will be offered by filling out a paper registration form, available on library circulation desks, in the Buck Run lobby, at Family Video, or sent home through local schools and daycares. You may also register online at this link, starting in April. Registering by June 2 will earn a special prize for each participant, available at the library’s downstairs desk!
We need volunteers and donors to make the summer reading program a success! Volunteers are needed to man tables at the kick-off family and teen parties; read stories and do presentations or help in the craft room at regular weekly events; help with set up, clean up, and activities at special parties, and assist with registration at our performers’ events. Donors help make summer reading more enjoyable for everyone by bringing food to our parties and weekly kids’ and teen programs, and by donating prizes to encourage reading. There will be a sheet for volunteers and donors to fill out on the back of each registration form, at the bottom of the online registration form, and available on the downstairs circulation desk. Thank you for making a difference in your community!
