Register for summer reading online here or plan to pick up a paper form at curbside pickup. See details below.
This year’s summer reading program will run from June 1 – August 5. The majority of this year’s summer reading program will be virtual. However, at this time, we are awarding reading prizes and providing some activities, crafts, and paper reading logs as a curbside pickup option. Every Friday, we reward completion of reading goals and challenges with prizes, which can be picked up by calling 620-223-2882 and scheduling a time for pickup. Even if your child has not earned an award, they may still receive a craft & activity packet through our pickup service. The youth summer reading program is for kids ages Birth – 12th grade.
Storytelling videos are offered on Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube. Preschool Zoom stories start at 10 am Tuesdays, with a pre-recorded video premiering at 2 pm. Elementary stories are on Zoom at 11 am Tuesdays, with the videos going live at 2:15 pm. Craft demonstration videos go live on YouTube and Facebook on Tuesdays at 3 pm. Guest readers and craft demonstrators appear in the videos, and Miss Val hosts the live Zoom events. Every Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm, Miss Val also hosts a live teen event, and teens can receive items at curbside pickup too.
Performer Jeff Quinn’s magic show, tailored to the summer reading theme and personalized for our library, was available from June 13 – 21.
Storyteller Will Stuck’s shows, Figment Follies for Preschoolers and Figment Follies for Elementary students, will be offered both through our website and Facebook page starting July 18 at 8 am. You may watch it anytime through July 23.
The calendar on our website or our Facebook events page will have listings for all live summer reading events. We hope to offer in-person activity & prize packet pickups at a minimum of every other week.
Please contact us at (620) 223-2882 or email Miss Val at vcyouthlib@gmail.com with any further questions.
A virtual LibraryCon may be offered this year, but is not guaranteed. To check out our latest event news, see our Facebook Events Page.
