This year’s summer reading program will run from June 1 – August 17. The majority of this year’s summer reading program will be virtual. We do plan to award reading prizes and provide some activities, crafts, and paper reading logs through our NextDayGrab&Go service. Every other week, we will reward completion of reading goals and challenges with prizes, with pickups occurring every other Mon.-Wed. Even if your child does not earn an award, they may pick up a craft & activity packet through our pickup service. The youth summer reading program is for kids ages Birth – 12th grade.
We have 3 performers this year – Musician Thad Beach will sing for us in a pre-recorded video, which we’ll share with you from July 27 – August 2. Magician Jeff Quinn returns this year, also with a pre-recorded video (videos are customized for our library), which we’ll share with patrons from June 9 – 15. Our third performer is Flint Hills Discovery Center, and they will perform the Reptile Experience live online on June 16, with a preschool performance at 10 am and an elementary performance at 11 am. We will share the links with registered summer reading participants once we have them.
NEW EVENTS: We now offer a variety of new events for the whole family! All of these events are virtual. They are listed below according to the platform we will use to host them.

Storytelling videos are offered live on Zoom or pre-recorded on Facebook and YouTube. Live Preschool Zoom stories will air at 10 am on Tuesdays. Elementary stories will start at 11 am on Tuesdays.
Story and craft demonstration videos will air on YouTube and Facebook on Tuesdays at 2 pm. Guest readers and craft demonstrators will appear in the videos. Miss Val will host live Zoom story programs, in which she’ll show the story videos one story at a time and lead group discussion after each story. This is a great option for kids who want to see their friends and Miss Val and to share an interactive experience. Every Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm, Miss Val will host a live, online teen event for 6th – 12th graders; teens will receive activity packets and participation rewards through NextDayGrab&Go too.
The calendar below and our Facebook events page will have listings for all live summer reading events. We will offer in-person activity & prize packet pickups every other week.
