Our 2017 Summer Reading theme is “Build a Better World” for all age groups. We are excitedly planning performances, activities, special guests, crafts, snacks, etc. and are hoping for plenty of community involvement. If you are able to volunteer or donate, or have an idea for a theme week or party, etc., please email Miss Val at email@example.com.
This year’s performers currently scheduled:
Musician Alan Cunningham – June 6 at 10 a.m. at the Danny & Willa Ellis Fine Arts Center (FSCC)
Professional Storyteller Jo Ho – June 23 at 10 a.m. at the Beaux Arts Centre
Wings of Love Inc.’s Rare Jewels of the Rainforest Bird Show – July 18 at 10 a.m. at the Danny & Willa Ellis Fine Arts Center (FSCC)
Also in the works:
Blocks Kick-Off Party – May 30 at 10 a.m. at the Danny & Willa Ellis Fine Arts Center (FSCC)
Fairy Garden-Making Party with Martha Scott at the Fort Scott Public Library new event room – sometime in July.
We are seeking individuals with skills in carpentry, environmental, conservation, any STEAM field, etc. to volunteer to read for us or speak to our groups throughout the summer, as well as community organizations and companies to donate prizes, food, drinks, and/or cash. Last year, we were thankful to have many individual donations of food and craft supplies, but had a more difficult time finding volunteers who could physically help with our groups, crafts, crowd control, registration, etc. If you or someone you know would be willing and able to help with our kick-off blocks party, fairy garden party, regular weekly programming, or wrap-up party, or even help with the preparation of crafts, please email the address above with your full contact info and specific details about what you’d be interested in doing. Our program is more successful when we work together!
Also, several of our library staff and family members are saving recyclables for use during our summer reading program, as recycling and re-purposing, as well as building, will be recurring themes throughout the summer. If you would like to donate any items, please save them AT HOME, and you may begin bringing them to Miss Val in May. All items need to be clean and dry.
