Progress is being made, though there was no regular work being done last week (nor could we enter the building) since it was asbestos removal time. All went well, and the building has been pronounced free of asbestos. Huzzah!
Upstairs, the framework for the drop ceiling (ceiling #3) has been removed, and they’ve put up some electrical piping.
The room formerly used as our office, all ready for fixing up.
Here’s a clearer look at the original ceiling (ceiling #1).
Stack of ceiling tiles from ceiling #2.
The floor of the upstairs elevator lobby, with all carpeting removed. The lighter-colored part was installed with the elevator in 2006, the darker part has been there for far longer.
The stairs, as viewed from the front door with carpeting removed. They took down the railing & put up a temporary one.
The stairs again, from downstairs.
South wall of the reading room. Looks like there used to be a door there? Right now it would have led into the stairs, but long ago those weren’t there (the front stairs didn’t lead downstairs at all originally).
The story room. The old vault is completely gone!
Above the doorway into the downstairs elevator lobby. Most likely this was knocked out for piping, perhaps for the AC or boiler.
Some of our walls have known better days….
Here’s something the staff are excited about – new stairs in the utility room (formerly the boiler room)! Our old stairs were not nearly this nice (and decidedly more dangerous).
