UPDATE (3/10/2017): We will be closed starting Thursday, 3/9/2017, for approximately 3 weeks while we move back into the library. If you need to return library materials, please use the new bookdrop located on the north side of the library in front of the 2nd street entrance.
We will leave the wi-fi running in Memorial Hall until we move it back to the library. We will try to get it back up as soon as we can.
If you need to use a computer during the time we are closed, we recommend the Fort Scott Community College Student Success Center, located in the Robert & Sylvia Bailey Hall, next to Student Union (open Monday – Thursday 7:30am-8pm, and Friday 8am-5pm).
UPDATE (9/2/2016): We will have new hours of operation while we are in our temporary location. We will be open Monday – Friday, 9am-4pm, except Thursday 9am-6pm. We will not be open on Saturday.
In addition, because we will only have 4 public computers available, the time limit on their use will be only 30 minutes. This time can be renewed provided that their is no one waiting to use a computer. However, be aware that those who have renewed their time are not guaranteed the renewed 30 minutes if someone else needs to use the computers and all others are occupied.
We’ve done our best to make our temporary home safe, but it is not highly childproof. We do ask that all children under 10 years of age be with an adult at all times while in the library.
UPDATE (8/29/2016): We will be re-opening in our temporary location at Memorial Hall on September 6th! Use the entrance to downstairs right off 3rd street. Please be aware that this area is NOT handicap accessible. We apologize for this, but there’s simply no way to make it so.
The interior of the Fort Scott Public Library will be undergoing a major remodeling project. The work will be begin in early September, and is likely to take 4-5 months. During this time, the library will be temporarily relocating next door to Memorial Hall. We will be located downstairs, off 3rd street.
Unfortunately, we will not have room for our full collection, so most of our books will be in storage during this time. We we still be able to request & receive items from other libraries, however.
Wednesday August 10th through Friday August 12th we will be closing at 4pm, as we prepare for the move.
Starting Saturday, August 13th, we will be closed for 2-3 weeks while we move & prepare for the remodeling. Most all items checked out this week will have an extended due date, currently September 6th (the day after Labor Day). While the overnight drop box will still be available while we are closed, we encourage our patrons checking out materials to hold on to them until after we have reopened. This will make those materials available for other patrons while we are in our temporary location.
We will also be chronicling the remodeling process here on this web site during these months, with pictures & updates to the process. We have no idea what to expect, since the last major remodeling project since the late 1960s / early 1970s!
We will be getting new floors, walls, ceilings, electrical system, heating & air, shelving, & computer network.
